u street, n.w. streetscape project
U Street NW Streetscape Project is a $5 million federally funded (and locally matched) District Department of Transportation (DDOT) project. DDOT is reconstructing a 0.4-mile segment of Historic U Street from 9th Street NW to 14th Street NW to widen and landscape the sidewalk areas, repair the roadway and perform upgrades to the streetlights, traffic signals and storm drains.
Work included the repair and replacement of roadway, driveway, and alley entrances; sidewalk, streetscape and landscape including brick gutters, granite curbs, and decorative sidewalks in front of the Lincoln Theatre; bus pads at WMATA bus stops; upgrades to storm drainage inlets, storm sewer pipes, and fire hydrants; a new electrical duct bank system, streetlights, centralized parking meters and traffic signs.
